RODS

There are many different rod types available, each one designed to fulfil a specific purpose. There are fly rods, bait rods, spinning rods. The list seems endless.  They are all designed present a lure, bait, or a representation of a natural insect with the sole purpose of catching fish.

Prices also vary quite considerably. You can pay anything from tens of pounds to several hundred pounds for a fly rod. Surprisingly its not always so easy to tell where the extra money is going.

As with everything in life you tend to get what you pay for but as a rough guide you should be able to pick up a perfectly serviceable carbon fibre fly rod for around £100 or maybe even less.

Its the same with Bait and Spinning rods. There are a wide range of prices available so shop around. Ask friends who fish for their opinion. Most will have some idea of what to buy and what to avoid. Also try your local shop. There are adverts on this site with phone numbers. Let them know your budget, remembering you will need a reel and line as well.

REELS

Again there are many different reel types, Spinning reels, Centre pin, Fly, Open face, Closed Face. As with the rods they are all designed to do a specific job, and as with the rods they will vary widely in price and quality. Once again ask around. Speak to friends who fish. Check out your local store. Buy a magazine, browse the web. There is a wealth of information out there that can help you make your decision and get you the right equipment for a price you can afford.
