Staveley and District Lurcher Club has its roots back in the early part of the twentieth century, when it was known as the Staveley Dog Racing Club.
Over the years it has folded, only to restart again years later in another form. SDLC in its present form began in the mid nineties when it grew from the remnants of the former Racing Club, and although its previous members are now mostly pensioners, some of them still have their old badges and turn up at our end of year finals.
Staveley Club, in whatever form, has always championed the smaller dog - whether it be whippets or lurchers - and operates a national championship for racing and showing for under 21" Lurchers.
This is held at Pleasley Miners Welfare, during the month of October, and this year (2007) our final is on Sunday October 14th.
The Club’s first show this year is at the Market Bosworth Country Show in Leicestershire on Sunday July 8th, and will feature simulated coursing, straight racing and a comprehensive schedule of showing for lurchers and terriers, including a family fun dog show.

Best wishes from all at Staveley.
