FISHING

In Scotland, we have an immense number of clean, sparkling rivers, ranging from the mighty Spey to beautiful small fast flowing streams that rush and tumble down hillsides into the sea.

Our salmon fishing is internationally recognised as being top quality, and ranges from top class beats, where you will have the use of a local ghillie for advice on the best salmon lies, all the way down to waters run by local clubs where public fishing by day permit is easily available to visitors for a few pounds per day.

In some areas, there are runs of beautiful sea-trout, which can be caught by various methods, although traditionally the best sea trout fishing is carried out with small flies just as the light fades in the late evening and into the night.

Brown trout fishing is available throughout the country in rivers and lochs, at modest cost, and during the winter grayling can be caught in many of our rivers.

We also have many Stillwater trout fisheries, well stocked with brown and rainbow trout of various sub-species, and great pleasure can be had at any time of year on these.

The seasons vary from place to place and by species, and full details appear in the fishing section of this website, but in Scotland it is possible to fish on every day of the year and the salmon season runs from early January right through till the end of November, depending on which river you fish.
