Moyola Gundog Association Working Test 04/06/11
Moyola Gundog Association have been running a working test in early June for many years and this year it was held at Cleggan Lodge Estate, the home of Lord Rathcavan, who freely gave us the use of the estate to run the test.
Cleggan Lodge is a well known and respected shooting estate and the Association would like to thank Joe Taylor the Shoot Manager for his help in choosing the ground over which to run the test and for presenting the prizes for the Preliminary and Novice tests.
The event was sponsored by North West Independent Hospital and all proceeds were for the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice. It was a great day with good weather and 38 dogs competed in three categories.
The judges D Newman and T Brady set very challenging courses for the Preliminary and Novice events in the morning and an even stiffer test for the advanced dogs in the afternoon culminating in a combined seen retrieve over water onto an island in the estate lake and a 200 yard blind.
The dogs were shown the island retrieve first and then sent for the blind away from the lake and then over a fence across the lake onto the island and back. This proved a real challenge and gave the spectators, including Lord and Lady Rathcavan, a very enjoyable finale.
The proceeds were £500.00 and this was presented by Lord Rathcavan to the Children’s Hospice and will provide a family with respite care for one week. The Hospice fundraisers have been in touch and wished to thank all involved and greatly appreciated the effort, thought and the funds raised.
