If you catch a salmon with a tag (as shown in the photograph) near the dorsal fin, then please remove it by cutting through the plastic cord to remove the acoustic tag (black cylinder). Please note that the colour of the cord may vary from yellow.

Tail Docking: Legislation Signed

Scottish tail docking legislation has been signed by Ministers and will be effective from 28th June 2017. As you know, an enormous amount of work has gone into this sensible change in law. Another example of why working together achieves far more than standing alone. This is a good result.

SACS: Tail Docking Update

The Scottish Parliament this afternoon voted on the draft Prohibited Procedures on Protected Animals (Exemptions) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2017; this proposes to allow the tail docking up to the age of five days of spaniel and HPR puppies that are likely to be used as working dogs, with docking limited to the end-third of the tail.

A significant number of our Scottish members share their lives with working dogs; representing our members views, SACS has always opposed the ban on the tail docking of puppies of any breed destined for a working life. In addition to this submission, we respectfully refer the Committee members to our submission to the 2016 consultation into the proposal to permit tail docking of working Spaniels and Hunt Point Retrievers.
