Covid-19 lockdown: Police clarify that shooting can reopen

24 May 2020

Members have asked for clarification as to whether shooting is to be included in the lifting of Covid-19 lockdown restrictions on 'outdoor pursuits'.

Covid-19 lockdown: Police clarify that shooting can reopen

Linked below is a helpful letter from the head of firearms licensing for the National Police Chiefs' Council, which clarifies that they see no reason for shooting activities not to reopen as long as Government Covid-19 guidance can be followed. We await the more detailed position statement from Police Scotland.

In Scotland, it is expected that the lockdown will start to be lifted from 28th May, though that date is not set in stone. Clearly essential pest control was not curtailed, but more general shooting sports will be able to continue after from that easing. There is a non-rigid request to keep outdoor pursuits reasonably local to home. Please continue to apply common sense as you plan any shooting, fishing or other country sports activities.

Also, please check with your landowner / farmer / shooting ground to make sure they are happy and open to shooting, fishing or other country sports.

If in doubt, give us a shout. More information as soon as we have it.
