SHOOTING

Shooting is popular, accessible, rewarding and fulfilling. As one of the most popular pastimes in the UK, shooting continues to grow in popularity – no wonder when it enhances so many peoples’ lives.

Shooting provides something for everyone, whether it be shooting at a paper, metal or clay target right through to shooting a bird or animal for the pot or to help manage your natural environment.

Depending on what you are shooting at, you can use a catapult, an air rifle, a shotgun, a rimfire or centrefire rifle, a bow or even a punt gun. You can shoot on an indoor range, an outdoor range, or anywhere where it is lawful to do so (we can help you with that). You don’t have to be a crack shot; outside of serious competitions and hunting live quarry, it’s the taking part that counts – we’re all improving, all the time.

The benefits of shooting are huge and varied. Research has shown that going shooting boosts mental wellbeing and physical health, improves social contact for a wide range of age groups, instils a strong sense of responsibility and awareness of safety in those who shoot, and fosters a strong sense of community and belonging.

As well as the social and health benefits to individual shooters, shooting is also a significant part of the UK economy. Just think of all the businesses that are linked to shooting – arms and ammunition manufacturers; clothing manufacturers and shops; shooting accessories suppliers; game fairs right across the country; estates, syndicates, clubs and ranges – and the businesses that supply them with everything they need to run; game dealers; butchers; artists; taxidermists; media publications... the list goes on and on. Shooting really is a fundamental part of life for hundreds of thousands of UK residents and businesses.

Shooters are always keen to help newcomers to our way of life, so you shouldn’t have to look far to find someone to help you out. Browse our website pages for more information about specific types of shooting, and you can always give us a call to find out more.

As you will see, unfortunately there are lots of people who don’t like shooters. Even though we don’t force our way of life on them, these people are fixated on stopping us from shooting. Some of them are in Government and try to use their power to pursue their own anti-shooting agenda. SACS is a strong, robust voice for shooters across the UK. As well as providing insurance for members, we also fight for the continuation and improvement of your way of life. Every new member helps us to do more – so join HERE today.
