NCA Keeping Guns Secure

The National Crime Agency have produced a document for circulation to those involved in shooting sports or activities.  Whilst providing a broad overview of the criminal use of firearms in the UK, it also highlights the desire to stop guns falling into criminal hands via theft etc. from legitimate holders of firearms.  They state;

‘⚠ More than one hundred shotguns have been stolen this year. Every stolen shotgun presents a risk to our communities. Be vigilant, be aware, be safe. Don’t be the next victim of gun theft.

Whilst the above is good to know, it is perhaps an opportune time to remind certificate holders that the requirement to keep guns secure is contained within the conditions attached to both shotgun and firearm certificates.

Whilst the NCA have a job to do in reminding us that an unlocked car or left out firearm can cause significant trouble for all, we, as a responsible, law abiding community who undergo significant monitoring as certificate holders hopefully understand the need to lock guns up.  Don’t get too comfortable with the security – always ask yourself, is it vulnerable, is it secure and is everything all right.  If not, then a lot of explaining and struggling to keep your certificates or worse could follow.
