UK REACH - Public Consultation on Lead in Ammunition
As you will likely be aware UK REACH on behalf of DEFRA previously ran a consultation in respect of lead ammunition, including lead shot. They have now published the results of that initial consultation and have further issued a consultation which closes on 10 December 2023.

The proposals at this time are;
Ø A restriction on the placing on the market and use of lead shot, with a derogation for individual athletes involved in target shooting, as identified by the appropriate sporting body (with a period of five years before the restriction begins)
Ø No restriction is proposed at this time on the placing on the market or use of lead bullets for live quarry shooting
Ø No restriction is proposed at this time on the placing on the market or use of lead in airgun ammunition
The report is considerable and is required reading for anyone who shoots. The community is rife with misinformation and misunderstanding and it is vitally important that your read the report, understand it and then come to a conclusion based upon the report. We are doing the same and will report back in the near future with our views.
