Consultation on firearms legislation

The Minister has stated that a consultation on firearms licensing-related matters will take place in due course.  There is no time scale.  We are led to believe that a full range of options is being considered, from doing nothing to full amalgamation of Sections 1 and 2 firearms.  The contents of the draft consultation are known only to policy officials.

We will update you as soon as we are aware of the consultation release date.  Currently, there is nothing else to report.

It is important to recognise that we made a policy decision not to comment on the contents of the consultation, as we simply don’t know what the consultation will include.  Rest assured, as soon as it becomes available, we will share our views.
