Cumbria Crimestoppers article – update

You will understand that there was significant concern raised within the shooting community about the use of Crimestoppers in Cumbria in respect of legally held firearms and certificate holders.  By way of update, we have submitted an FOI request to Cumbria seeking copies of the communications internally, to accurately assess the decision-making process.  We await that reply.

Given the strength of feeling, we liaised with our colleagues at the Scottish Gamekeepers Association and, together, we wrote to DCC Gardner of Warwickshire Police, who is the NPCC lead.  A copy of the letter is attached.  We await his reply and, upon receipt, will share that information in our news section.

To be clear, we believe that using Crimestoppers is ill-advised and threatens to undermine trust between certificate holders and the police significantly.  We will continue to challenge Cumbria's tactic.
