Sound Moderators

17/02/2026

We have been made aware that a UK Government amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill was published on 17 February which will remove sound moderators from firearms licensing controls and the requirement to be on the certificate and approved by police forces.

However, to mitigate possible risk, a new offence will be created of possessing a sound moderator without a valid firearms or shotgun certificate.

The amendments have been tabled for Lords Report stage of the Crime and Policing Bill for debate either later this month or early next month.

In essence this means that the legislation is on its journey to become law. In the meantime, sound moderators continue to require to be on a certificate.  We will keep you updated regarding progress.
