Home Office Consultation

As you will know, the Home Office indicated some time ago that it will be holding a consultation on firearms licensing in light of the Keyham tragedy and the reports subsequently issued by the Coroner, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, and a separate report from the Scottish Affairs Committee.

To be clear, there is no date set for the issuance of this consultation, and whilst there has been a general indication of its contents, e.g., Section 1 and 2 firearms harmonisation, no one, apart from Home Office officials, is aware of its contents.

Consequently, any commentary at this time is speculation and should be treated as such.

The consultation will likely be issued next year, and rest assured, as soon as it is available, it will be circulated to members immediately.  We will also provide context for the questions asked. We will urge members to respond to the consultation when it is available.  This subject is far too important to ignore.

If you have any queries, as usual, don’t hesitate to phone the office and we will do our best to help you.
